NCI BSA Approves Changes to the Cooperative Group System
The NCI’s Board of Scientific Advisors (BSA) approved a plan on November 7, 2011 that changes the structure, funding, and review criteria of the cooperative group system. The new plan is based in-part upon recommendations contained in a 2010 report from the Institutes of Medicine (IOM), A National Clinical Trials System for the 21st Century: Reinvigorating the NCI Cooperative Group Program. The Cancer Letter has published a special issue summarizing the approved plan and detailing the latest developments in the cooperative group reorganizations.
