RTOG Foundation

Never in the history of oncology has there been more opportunity to achieve major advances in the treatment of common malignant diseases. Accomplishments by Radiation Therapy Oncology Group investigators in the past decade have led to favorable reviews by our peers and renewed funding by the National Cancer Institute. We have improved survival in cancer of the lung, esophagus, cervix, prostate and nasopharynx. In each case, control of the local and regional tumor, often in combination with systemic agents, was critical to success. Preliminary studies and discoveries from many laboratories offer even greater promise to improve outcome in the future.

In spite of these accomplishments, funding for RTOG research has not come close to recommended levels. There have not even been sufficient increases to meet cost of living standards, let alone to investigate new technologies, new agents, and new understandings of cancer arising from laboratories. The clinical and translational research upon which all of us and our patients depend is being blocked or delayed by lack of financial support.

The RTOG Foundation offers an opportunity for all those interested in the research of the RTOG to contribute to its success. Members of our professional community, corporations, patients and friends have been invited to contribute to support the research of the RTOG. It is critical to advance the efforts of the RTOG now so that it can pursue new avenues quickly. The needs of our future patients depend upon generous support from our friends and colleagues.
