Daniel L. Hunt, Jr., Ph.D., New RTOG Senior Statistician


PHILADELPHIA - Daniel L. Hunt, Jr., Ph.D., has joined the Radiation Therapy Oncology Groups (RTOG) as a senior statistician in the group's Statistics and Data Management Center. Dr. Hunt will be responsible for the center's genitourinary and symptom management research teams. RTOG is a National Cancer Institute-funded national clinical trials group and is administered by the American College of Radiology.

Prior to joining the RTOG, Dr. Hunt was a research associate in the Biostatistics Department of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis TN where he participated in the statistical design and analysis of pediatric clinical trials and preclinical animal trials. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Mississippi with a dissertation on threshold dose-response models in teratology.

"I am looking forward to working on RTOG's research mission and working with group's distinguished investigators in the US and Canada as well as the dedicated professionals at RTOG Headquarters," relates Dr. Hunt.

"We are pleased that Dr. Hunt has joined the RTOG Statistics Center," said Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, the RTOG Group Chair, and the Lawrence W. Davis Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Emory School of Medicine and Chief Medical Officer of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute. "His background in applied and theoretical statistical modeling will be a valuable asset for the group's research."

The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) is a clinical research enterprise of the American College of Radiology (ACR), located in the ACR Philadelphia, PA office. RTOG is a multi-institutional international clinical cooperative group funded primarily by National Cancer Institute grants CA21661, CA32115 and CA37422. RTOG has 40 years of experience in conducting clinical trials and is comprised of over 300 major research institutions in the United States, Canada, and internationally. The group currently is currently accruing to 40 studies that involve radiation therapy alone or in conjunction with surgery and/or chemotherapeutic drugs or which investigate quality of life issues and their effects on the cancer patient.
